Favorite Finds

While hunting through the stacks during this project, each binding discovered generated its own little pop of excitement. Then there were the bindings that can only be described as my "favorite finds".  This page is devoted to showcasing these delightful discoveries.  These bindings have been exalted to "favorite" status in whole or part due to their inherent beauty, some weird quirk of provenance, or some other aspect of note.

Festus

I just really adore the tooling on the spine and borders of this binding. The spine reminds me of fish scales!

Zar Iwan der Schreckliche

This is a lovely, highly coordinated example of Jugendstil design applied to bookbinding.  I simply cannot get over the spine decoration on these two volumes. And all the more fascinating because this beautiful book is about Ivan the Terrible!

The manx witch and other poems

What can I say - it's one of my favorite colors! After wading through brown after red after brown book, finding a book in this teal blue hue was quite a surprise. And the tooling on the turn-ins really makes the color pop!

The poetical Decameron

This is one of those bindings that really must be touched in order to be fully appreciated.
