Theodore was the son of the Reverend Theodore Strong Pond and Julia Ida Pond (nee Hanford). He was born in Beirut (probably while his father, the Reverend Pond, was a missionary there) and returned to the states in 1889. He attended the Pratt Institute in New York, worked for Tiffany & Co., and had his own art studio in Baltimore from 1911-1914.
As of was the superintendent of the Department of Fine Arts in the Mechanics Institute of Rochester, New York (later known as the Rochester Institute of Technology).
