Schanck was the art director for the publisher World Book Company. His monogram was identified because Schanck was listed as an illustrator in "Science for Beginners", where he also used the fancy S in some of his illustrations.
His wife, Mary Eliza Schanck, was also an artist who did illustrations for the World Book Company.
