"A feature of the spine in which the covering material is adhered either directly to the spine-folds of the bookblock or to the spine-linings. If the spine is flexible, the covering material will therefore move with the spine-folds into a concave shape as the book is opened (throw up)."<ref name="Lig">Language of Bindings Thesaurus.
