Spotted this cute cover with a dapper bicycle riding man on it. The red cloth of the spine has faded dramatically, but the cover was still a nice bright red, and the gold stamped decoration remains shiny. The book is “The Wheels of Chance” by H.G. Wells, and this edition was published in 1896.

Yes, I am that kind of person who visits the local library while on vacation. This is the bike rack outside of Syracuse’s petite Petit library in the Wescott neighborhood.

Stained glass pages

This book has translucent plastic plates of medieval stained glass windows! What a cool feature…I’ve never seen anything like it! Many of the plates have come loose, however, so we’ll tip them back in before the book is returned to the library shelves.

This is an old-books-about-Egypt appreciation post. I love publisher’s bindings, and Egyptian art, so this was a fun excursion into our stacks. These are all circulating books, by the way, not part of our special collections.  Also I can’t get over that typeface they used on “Redemption of Egypt”. SO pretty! Anybody know what it’s called, […]

This book went to get library bound in 1984, according to its original check-out card. And guess what? It gets to go get library bound AGAIN, which is why it’s on my bench. I’m taking off the old & worn library binding, cleaning the spine, putting a nice reversibility layer of Japanese tissue on it, […]
