Repeat after me: Conservators save paper. Conservationists save trees. Every time a journalist or press release gets this wrong, it makes me want to scream. Please, help spread the right word about what conservators do!
Disbinding a damaged book, so that I can resew it and then rebind it. It’s strangely therapeutic and relaxing to take a book apart, I’ve found. Putting it back together is the more stressful part for me.
Yesterday in the conservation lab it was all about bedbugs and sticky Star Wars toys. Today it’s all about panoramic photographs in need of rehousing!
